Worker & Team Leader Terms
MoveMate · Effective date: [DATE]
DRAFT — to be reviewed by a qualified UK solicitor (employment status / platform work) before publication.
Welcome to the crew. These terms apply when you register on MoveMate as an Individual Worker or a Team Leader, and every time you accept a job. Please read them carefully — they explain how you get work, how you get paid and what we expect of each other.
1. Who we are
MoveMate is a trading name of [COMPANY LTD] (company number [COMPANY NUMBER]), registered office [ADDRESS]. Contact: [EMAIL].
2. Your status — you're your own boss
2.1 You are a self-employed independent contractor. Nothing in these terms makes you an employee, worker (in the employment-law sense), agent or partner of [COMPANY LTD]. [Solicitor to confirm this classification in light of Uber BV v Aslam [2021] UKSC 5.]
2.2 That means, in practice:
- you decide whether, when and where to work by setting your own availability and service areas;
- you are free to accept or decline any job offer, and declining will never be penalised or lower your ranking;
- you can work for other platforms, clients or employers, including competitors;
- you decide how to carry out the lifting safely, within the job description agreed with the customer;
- you are responsible for your own tax and National Insurance (register as self-employed with HMRC and file Self Assessment), and for your own equipment, clothing and travel.
2.3 You are not entitled to holiday pay, sick pay or pension contributions from [COMPANY LTD].
3. Joining MoveMate
3.1 To register you must:
- be at least 18 years old;
- have the right to work in the UK and provide documents for us to check it;
- provide valid photo ID and proof of address;
- provide accurate contact details, city, postcode and service areas;
- complete our online safety and manual-handling induction;
- hold (or obtain within [30] days) public liability insurance of at least £[1,000,000] — or opt into any group cover MoveMate arranges via [INSURER], if offered;
- agree to a basic DBS check if you want jobs flagged as involving vulnerable customers.
3.2 Applications are reviewed by our team. We may approve or decline an application at our discretion, and we'll tell you the outcome by SMS/email.
3.3 You must keep your documents up to date and tell us straight away if your right to work, insurance or any other information changes.
4. Team Leaders
4.1 A Team Leader registers and manages a team of two, three or four people (including themselves).
4.2 Every team member must register their own MoveMate profile and pass the same checks before working on any job. A Team Leader must never bring an unregistered or unapproved person to a job.
4.3 The Team Leader accepts team jobs on behalf of the team, makes sure the right number of approved members attend, and is the main point of contact on site.
4.4 Payout for a team job is made either to each member's own Stripe account or to the Team Leader's Stripe account, as chosen in the team settings. Where it's paid to the Team Leader, they are responsible for paying team members their agreed share promptly and are solely responsible for that arrangement.
5. Availability and job offers
5.1 You set your availability (days, time slots) and service areas (postcodes/cities) in your dashboard. Please keep them accurate — offers are sent based on them.
5.2 We send job offers by in-app notification, SMS (via Twilio) and/or WhatsApp. Each offer shows the job type, area, date, time, length, number of Workers, a summary of items and access, and your payout. The exact address is released only once you've accepted, and close to the job time.
5.3 Offers may go to several Workers; the first suitable Workers to accept get the job. Our matching system uses postcode, availability, team size, ratings and reliability to decide who sees offers first — see our Privacy Policy for how this works and how to ask for a human review.
6. Doing the job
6.1 Once you accept a job you've made a commitment to the customer. You must:
- arrive on time, sober and fit to work, wearing suitable footwear;
- check in and out in the app (start and finish times are used for billing);
- treat customers, their homes and belongings with care and respect;
- work safely: use correct lifting technique, ask for help and refuse any lift you think is unsafe;
- stay for the full booked time unless the customer releases you early.
6.2 You must not: drive or travel in the customer's vehicle or transport their goods; carry out work at height, plumbing, gas, electrical or other trade work; move any item listed in our Acceptable Use & Prohibited Items Policy; work under the influence of alcohol or drugs; take anything from the property; share customers' details; or bring anyone who isn't an approved team member.
6.3 If you find hazards (suspected asbestos, needles, drugs, aggressive animals, unsafe structures) or the job is materially different from what was described, stop, keep yourself safe, and contact support through the app. You'll still be paid for the booking where the customer is charged.
6.4 Extra time: you may agree to stay longer if you're free. The customer must approve the extension in the app so it's billed — don't accept cash for extra time.
7. Money
7.1 Your earnings. Each offer shows the Job Fee and your payout. MoveMate keeps a platform commission of 15 % of the Job Fee for providing the marketplace, payments, insurance administration, marketing and support. You receive the remaining 85 %, plus 100 % of any tips and any approved extra time (less 15 % commission on extra time; none on tips).
7.2 How you're paid. Payouts are made through Stripe Connect. You must set up and verify a Stripe connected account (Stripe will ask for ID and bank details). [COMPANY LTD] collects payment from the customer as your limited payment collection agent; once the customer has paid us, their debt to you is settled.
7.3 When. Completed jobs are released after a [48]-hour review window and paid out weekly every Friday to your bank account. Payout history and statements are in your dashboard.
7.4 Deductions. We may hold or reverse payouts where a job didn't happen, the customer is due a refund because of your no-show or misconduct, there's a credible damage claim under investigation, or we suspect fraud. We will explain any hold and you can respond before a final decision.
7.5 Invoices and VAT. We generate a self-billing statement for each payout on your behalf (you agree to self-billing). If you are VAT-registered, tell us your VAT number.
8. Cancellations by you
Life happens. If you can't make a job you accepted, cancel in the app as early as possible so we can find a replacement. Late cancellations (under 24 hours) and no-shows hurt customers and may lead to fewer priority offers or, if repeated, suspension. Genuine emergencies are taken into account.
9. Ratings, reviews and quality
Customers rate jobs. We may contact you about low ratings or complaints, and we'll always hear your side before acting.
10. Damage and insurance
10.1 You must carry out work with reasonable care and skill. If something is damaged, tell the customer and report it in the app immediately with photos.
10.2 You are responsible for damage or injury caused by your own negligence, which is why public liability insurance is required. MoveMate may help manage claims between customers and Workers under the Damage & Liability Policy.
11. No direct deals (non-circumvention)
For 12 months after any job, you must not offer or accept paid work directly from a customer you met through MoveMate, or encourage them to book off-platform. Doing so may result in permanent deactivation. If a customer approaches you, politely point them to the app.
12. Confidentiality and data
You'll receive customers' names, job addresses and access details. Use them only for the job, don't copy or keep them after the job, and never share them. You must comply with UK GDPR when handling customer data. See our Privacy Policy for how we handle yours.
13. Suspension and deactivation
13.1 We may suspend your account immediately where there's a credible safety, fraud, theft, abuse or legal compliance concern, or your right to work or insurance lapses.
13.2 For other issues (for example repeated late cancellations or poor ratings) we'll warn you first and give you a chance to improve.
13.3 We'll tell you the reason for any deactivation, and you can ask for a review by a member of our team within 14 days at [EMAIL].
13.4 You can close your account at any time from Settings. Outstanding payouts for completed jobs will still be paid.
14. Liability between you and us
Nothing limits liability for death or personal injury caused by negligence, fraud, or anything else that can't legally be limited. Otherwise, [COMPANY LTD]'s total liability to you is limited to the commission it earned from your jobs in the 12 months before the claim, and neither of us is liable for indirect losses or loss of profit.
15. Changes
We may update these terms. We'll give you at least 14 days' notice of material changes by email or in the app. If you don't agree, you can close your account before they take effect.
16. General
English law applies and the courts of England and Wales have jurisdiction. If any part is invalid, the rest stays in force. These terms, our Privacy Policy and the Acceptable Use Policy are the whole agreement between us about your use of MoveMate.
